A church is more than just gathering together at
various times for worship and teaching. It's also about being a community,
and key to that is the need to gather together in varied contexts so that
people can get to know one another more deeply. Social events are a good
way of doing that and what's more they are a great way of introducing others
to church.
Our parish runs a number of social events throughout the year to help cater
to this aspect of church life.
Parish Picnic - Happens during January or February and usually
involves lots of food, BBQs, water, swimming, boats, games and general
relaxation.
Mid Winter Social - This varies and ranges from Mid Winter Christmas
Dinners through to a Parish Concert.
End of Year Function - Usually to do with food and has included
Progressive Dinners, Soup and Rolls at The Shed and so on.
Besides these official functions we have a pot luck lunch on the last Sunday
of every month at Cobden church, occasional morning teas at Runanga, there
are also casual fishing outings, gatherings to watch the rugby and much,
much more. Check out our newsletter closer to the times for more detailed
information. |
